Moonshiners - May 2, 1901

We read with delight the account of the capture of two illicit distilleries in the heart of New York City. They were located in handsome residences and the trade of moonshiner was going merrily on, the stuff being reatiled at $1.40 per gallon.

We have heard so much about moonshining in our section and seen so little real evidence of it that we are pleased to learn that the New York Daily Shockers do not have to look so far for this sort of a law breaker.

We believe that there has been no moonshining in Pocahontas County for years. We can truthfully say that in that time we have taken none in on subscription and we generally get all the products of the county in that way.

When Pocahontas people go to New York they should ask the question that has been hurled at us so often: “Are there any moonshiners around here?”
